How likely is it that the torpedo that sank USS Porter actually came from that ditching TBF Avenger? Given that Avengers carried their torpedo in an internal bomb bay, the odds of it "successfully" launching after the plan was in the water strikes me as very low. Even if the torpedo had been released, with the bay doors still closed and a Twin Cyclone radial in front of it, how would it get out of the Avenger to run into a nearby destroyer?

@GaldirEonai Personally, I'd rate Halsey as being the US Navy's equivalent of MacArthur. An incompetent bungler who avoided the consequences he deserved via a combination of self-promotion and political connections.

@calvingreene90 I stand by my assessment of Dugout Doug. The fact that he didn't share the fate of General Short and Admiral Kimmel was a great injustice, given that his unpreparedness and utter failure in the Philippines were even greater than theirs at Pearl Harbor.

@calvingreene90 Even after Pearl Harbor, MacArthur continued to do nothing. He even defied direct orders to commence bombing of Japanese targets, leaving his B-17s to be destroyed on the ground without having conducted even a single mission.
