  5. Putin doesn't get any choice about "NATO on Russia's border". Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, and Finland are all NATO members that border Russia. And NATO membership for Ukraine would end this war instantly, because Russia knows they cannot win against NATO.
