  1. It's well-documented as being a lie. From 2014 to 2022, the total civilian death toll in Donbas was 3,404. That's including the 300 people killed on MH17 when it was shot down by a Russian Buk missile. The much-cited 14,400 deaths over that period of the war includes 11,000 soldiers who were KIA (both Ukrainian, "separatist", and Russian). That's certainly not the kind of death toll that 8 years of "indiscriminately shelling civilians" would've resulted in. Look at Gaza to see what just one year of indiscriminate shelling of civilians actually causes.

  2. Because a nation cannot have "aggression" toward itself. Donbas is part of Ukraine. And the conflict in Donbas starting in 2014 was itself an act of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The "rebels" were always largely Russian mercenaries, along with some invading Russian Army units with unmarked uniforms and vehicles (the infamous "little green men"). And Maidan was a popular uprising against a corrupt president who was trying to install himself as dictator.

Just look what 1 year of actual indiscriminate shelling of civilians did in Gaza. The civilian death toll for that 8 years of the war was about 3,400 people. Compared to 11,000 soldiers killed on both sides. That is not what happens if civilians are being indiscriminately shelled. And bear in mind that the civilian death toll includes the 300 people on that Malaysian airliner that Russia shot down.

  18. No such stipulations existed. Maidan was not in any way a "coup". And the unelected "People's Republic" governments did not actually represent the people of Donetsk and Luhansk. Imagine if some CIA agent declared that he was now the president of the "Siberian People's Republic" and that he was seceding from Russia. Nobody would take that seriously, so why should GRU agents doing the same thing in Donetsk and Luhansk be taken seriously?
