@woff1959 Which is funny since Britain was quite literally an empire itself at the time. And either way, the dissolution clearly had a destabilizing effect on Europe. Franz Ferdinand had the right idea before he was assassinated. Elevate all of the other nationalities under the Habsburg crown to equal status with Austria and Hungary, but keep them all united under that crown.

@gusmarokity6482 It's strange, her winning the Nobel Prize in 2023 got a lot less media attention than the perception that she was snubbed by them in 2022.

"Austro-Hungarian Empire" is what English speakers called it, not any of the people actually living there. Much like how nobody ever lived in a place called the "Byzantine Empire". They called themselves the Roman Empire. This kind of thing happens everywhere. Outsiders often have a different name for a place than the native population.
