That bit about Dreyfus is very inaccurate. He was not in any way an ethnic German. He was ethnically French. And the anti-Dreyfus faction in France was quite open in declaring that they considered him guilty despite all proof to the contrary solely because he was Jewish.

@Meirstein At the same time, the fact that Alsace populated predominately by Frenchmen who also spoke at least some German made Alsatians actually preferred to become officers in the French Army, since they had more familiarity with the nation's primary enemy. And Dreyfus in particular was known to be ultra-patriotic toward France. Which was also common among Alsatians, who didn't appreciate being conquered by Germany.
