Since he'd apparently been writing entries on it as he went up the mountain but didn't write anything about reaching the summit, that leaves two possibilities. Either he fell to his death before getting to the top, or the sun was already down when he got to the top and thus too dark too see to write.

And the reason that the Mayan calendar "ends" when it does is that after the Spanish conquest of the Maya, Catholic priests destroyed most of their writings, including most of the calendars.

  4. If reincarnation is real, that still wouldn't necessarily mean everybody has lived past lives. Or if the Hindus and Buddhists have it right, that our past lives were necessarily as humans. The fundamental problem is that unless a way is ever found to detect and measure the soul, it's impossible to even guess at what physical mechanisms would be required to make reincarnation possible.

  5. Well if you're going to claim reincarnation (which nobody has ever identified any actual mechanism for, meaning that it's basically magic), then why not also claim that your soul can time travel and thus reincarnate into people who already existed before you died?
