  1.  @RomeoMike22  The US also went to great lengths to conceal their own experiments showing the advantages of a smaller, lower-recoil cartridge. Then after forcing NATO to adopt the .308, they turned right around and replaced it with the even smaller .223 round.

  2. If the US Army hadn't been so obsessed with .30 caliber, the FAL would never have needed replacing. Personally, I blame Douglas MacArthur. If he hadn't mandated that the M1 Garand be converted from .276 Pedersen to .30-06 before it could be adopted, the US would've already standardized on a 7mm round pre-WW2.
