  1. The prospects of a war with China have become very real. But the prospects of a land war with China remain vanishingly small. The only realistic scenario for a war with China revolves around an invasion of Taiwan. And the outcome of any such invasion attempt would be decided at sea, not on the ground. Either Taiwan and the US sink enough of China's transports to prevent a sufficient landing force from reaching Taiwan, or China does manage to land enough troops in which case the war is over and China wins. The latter outcome is considerably less likely, because China's amphibious capability is just nowhere near sufficient for such a large-scale landing, and as much as they've improved their navy it's still not good enough to protect all the troop ships that would be needed for a force as powerful as the US Navy. Either way, nobody's going to launch a counter-invasion of mainland China, simply because doing so would be insane. It would play into all of China's advantages to do so, for no real gain. If the troop ships get sunk without China managing to land a sufficient amount of troops on Taiwan, that means China has already lost the war. There'd be no reason to throw away more lives trying to make China lose even harder.

  3. That would all require either an act of Congress, or a Supreme Court ruling striking down the NFA. An ATF director can halt enforcement of those, but that would still leave everyone vulnerable to prosecution as soon as a new administration comes in.

It fires a very high velocity round designed to defeat body armor, because the likelihood of fighting a major war against a real nation rather than just terrorists and insurgents has been increasing. Except it turns out that Russia doesn't actually issue body armor. And any war with China is extremely unlikely to be a land war.
