  1. There actually was a proposal to adapt the An-71 to carrier use as the An-75. But this was rejected on the basis that such an adaptation would be so expensive they might as well design a carrier-based AWACS from scratch. This was the Yakovlev Yak-44, which never even got off the drawing board because of the collapse of the USSR.
