  1. With the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009 (which turned out to actually be far less deadly than the typical seasonal flu), there was lots of criticism that that official count was too low. The widely-seen 12.5k death toll? That's the CDC's estimate of how many were killed over the course of the year. The number of confirmed H1H1 deaths was only 1000. Nobody now is putting out any estimates of how many people have died of COVID-19, though it's clear that thousands have died of COVID without being diagnosed with it.
