  1. Yes, the Holodomor happened, and it was a deliberate genocide. As did the Asharshylyk in Kazakhstan, which was the same thing except targeting Kazakhs rather than Ukrainians. The Holodomor is also why Kuban went from being a Ukrainian-majority region (it wasn't at random that Ukraine claimed it as their territory when declaring independence from the Russian Empire in 1917) to being less than 1% Ukrainian. After all, Stalin couldn't have at territory that was detached from Ukraine and given to Russia being majority Ukrainian. Also, tankies using whataboutism is the least surprising thing ever. After all, Stalin basically invented that rhetorical tactic. Also, as somebody with actual left-wing leanings, I am baffled by how tankies don't even realize that Russia is no longer communist, and instead is now a very Nazi-like state (right down to Putin's entire playbook for invading Ukraine being akin to the pretexts Hitler used for invading Czechoslovakia and Poland). But then, since the Soviet Union was really just old-school Russian autocracy with a Marxist flavor added on top, I guess it shouldn't be that surprising for the tankies to still have affection for Russian autocracy even after the Marxist flavor is removed.
