  1. Rather than skipping the 7.62 NATO development, why not go one step further back and block MacArthur's insistence that the M1 Garand be changed from .276 to .30-06? While there were valid short-term reasons for that decision, in the long run leaving the M1 in .276 would've made for a better rifle. And had the M1 already been firing a 7mm round, obviously the Pentagon wouldn't have been stupidly insisting that NATO couldn't be allowed to standardize on a slightly shorter 7mm.
