Would be nice if HS would make a semi-auto version of the VHS for Springfield to sell in the US.

@mobiusone6154 For me, the fact that it visually looks like a G36 had relations with a FAMAS is appealing. And I like the look of bullpups and the concept behind them. Though I don't own any, because I can't spare upward of 2 grand on a rifle and any bullpup cheaper than that is probably junk. (Well aside from the PS90, but in that case it's the ammo prices that'd be an issue. Plus the good stuff in 5.6x28 isn't sold to civilians, so it'd be purely a range toy.) Edit: Actually, to my surprise (I hadn't looked at them in years) the Tavors sell in the $1700 range. But something about them just looks ugly to me, even though I like bullpups in general. Oh well.

Croatia isn't (currently) known as a major firearms producer, since the center of the Yugoslav arms industry was always in Serbia. It also doesn't help that HS Produkt's other major design (the HS2000 pistol) is being sold in the US as the Springfield XD, and thus lots of Americans don't even realize it's Croatian. Sure, people that actually own one can see the "Made in Croatia" on the side of the frame, but still.

2:18 I'm guessing that the reason for the length of pull being so long to begin with and having the option to make it even longer is that it's Croatian. On average the tallest people in the world are Croatians.

When a FAMAS and a G36 love each other very much...

@Immafraid But for ease of transition this would've had a serious advantage. The French Army has been using exclusively bullpups for decades. Anybody who's trained on the FAMAS would probably find the VHS-2 very similar to handle. (Though a shorter length of pull might've been appreciated, since the average Frenchman isn't as tall as the average Croatian.) But you're right that H&K probably gave them an excellent deal.

@jeffb.140 Basically all of the land systems manufacturers merged into GIAT, now Nexter Systems. And Nexter has now dropped the small arms portion of the market. And Nexter merged with their German counterpart Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. Hence France and Germany collaborating for their next tank, since with their tank designers merged they really didn't have a choice in the matter. The difference being that in Germany, the small arms manufacturers remain independent companies rather than having merged with the land vehicle manufacturers. So companies like H&K and Walther are safe from somebody deciding they're "no longer necessary".

@themasterofdisastr1226 The AR-15 isn't really much of an issue. Bullpup buyers are mostly a separate niche from AR buyers. But the bullpup market has plenty of competitors, and probably not enough people will care about VHS's "FAMAS has a kid with G36" look and feel to buy it instead of one of the already-established bullpups. As such it probably wouldn't be seen as worth the expense to bring to market in the US.

@AzureRoseMarshal It's not that the HK416 is bad, it's just that it's not French. It's kind of sad that after so many centuries, the French small arms industry no longer exists.

No civilian version exists so far.

@LinkHyrule03 So they've got that forward ejector perfected?
1
@LinkHyrule03 And apparently the SE model is about $150 cheaper. But the forward eject is so cool. So I guess it's a matter of which is more important to you, function or cool.

@warrenharrison9490 Unfortunately I probably can't afford it any time soon. But oh well. Maybe someday.

@nobody-ye9rx Springfield has an established relationship with HS Produkt, importing their HS2000 pistols to sell as the XD. So it makes perfect sense to suggest that they should also import the VHS for sale in America. The problem being that HS Produkt has yet to make a semi-auto version of the VHS, and who knows if they're interested in doing so.

@Camino377 I guess it depends on what price they could economically sell these for. If they could match the price of the Tavor, there'd probably be enough of a market to be profitable.
