His take on Ukraine is totally disqualifying. Not merely the claim that NATO provoked Russia, but his insistence that Ukraine should surrender their country to Russia for "peace".

RFK Jr is as far from progressive as it gets. He's a conservative.

In short, there never was any promise that NATO would not "expand" to include the nations of Eastern Europe. Russia pulled that out of their collective ass. The pledge that actually happened was that NATO would not operate in the territory of the former East Germany. None of the nations of Eastern Europe were parties to that treaty on the reunification of Germany, nor were 11 out of the 15 nations that were already NATO members at the time. The subject of whether more nations would join NATO was never even discussed. Russia simply made the whole thing up, because they think the entirety of Eastern Europe is their rightful "sphere of influence". Whereas the nations that had just escaped from decades of Soviet rule and in many cases had been repeatedly invaded by Russia for centuries before that? They very much wanted to get into NATO as soon as possible to make sure they would never be part of a "Russian sphere of influence" again. And this loss of power over Russia's former vassal states enraged Putin.

He couldn't possibly be more wrong about Russia and NATO.

He kind of is excusing Russia, though. Because he's taking an obviously bullshit Russian narrative at face value. Along with railing against "the American Empire" but always calling Russia "the Russian Federation" rather than "the Russian Empire". And worst of all, insisting that Ukraine should just give half their country to Russia in exchange for "peace". As if that wouldn't guarantee that Russia would invade again in a few years to seize the other half.

@Independent97 The US would not in fact invade Mexico over them considering an alliance with Russia. And you (perhaps deliberately) ignore everything that Russia has done to Ukraine that would make them want to join NATO. Remember, Ukraine was completely uninterested in NATO membership until after Russia invaded them and seized Crimea in 2014.

@Independent97 Those maps you've seen of Russia supposedly "surrounded" by US military bases include a lot of fake "bases". Also, maybe Russia should give some thought about why all those nations in Eastern Europe want to join NATO. Hint: it's because Russia refuses to peacefully coexist. Russia thinks they're entitled to dominate those nations, so naturally they all moved to join an alliance powerful enough that Russia wouldn't dare mess with them anymore.

@Independent97 His username is literally "MAGA", of course he's not on the left.

On what grounds would "most agree"? He says that Ukraine should give the territory to Russia in exchange for peace. He refuses to acknowledge that Russia is an aggressively expansionist empire. Even if you think his blaming NATO for "provoking" Russia is valid, his pro-Russia stance is not.

If NATO had disbanded after the Cold War, Russia would've invaded more than just Ukraine.

"Anti-imperial" while repeating the Russian Empire's narrative.

His "nuance" includes refusing to admit that Russia is an empire, and insisting that Ukraine should surrender their territory in exchange for peace. If he's not pro-Putin then he's just horribly naive.
