  1. The Constitution doesn't actually require that the Speaker of the House actually be a member of the House of Representatives. While there has yet to be a Speaker of the House elected who's not a current Representative, there actually have been individual Representatives who have voted for somebody outside the House during the Speaker elections. Nancy Pelosi therefore remains Speaker of the House until either she resigns from that office or the House votes to replace her. In the scenario of there being no elections held this year, there wouldn't be any Representatives to vote to replace her. Meaning that her term as Speaker would continue even after her term as a Representative ended.
