It's not simply that nearly half of the voters are stupid. It's that they're evil.

@matthewkopp2391 Even though the Constitution wasn't intended to be tailored to a two-party system, it turned out that way anyway. Everything about the way it structures the federal government guaranteed that a two-party system was going to be the result.

Feeds Ravens There have been only a handful of major changes in the US electoral system, all of them long before 1949 when the Basic Law of Germany was written. In 1804 the presidential election system was changed to reduce the likelihood of a tie and remove the rather bizarre arrangement where the 2nd-place candidate became Vice President. And in 1913 the Senate became directly elected instead of appointed by state legislatures. And in both cases this only changed how the elections are handled (likewise for the amendments that gave non-whites and women the right to vote in 1870 and 1920). The fundamental structure of the US federal government hasn't changed since 1788. Personally, I think the problem is that when the US Constitution was being written, they were deliberately trying to to avoid replication of the parliamentary system of Britain, since that was the nation they'd just successfully rebelled against. Which was a mistake, because a parliamentary system encourages broad-based coalitions rather than creating a system where there's only room for 2 major parties.

Feeds Ravens Germany has a completely different, and probably superior, electoral system to the US. It really doesn't translate to how things work in the US.

@matthewkopp2391 You're part of the problem, peddling lies like this. No, Clinton and Biden are not corrupt.

@matthewkopp2391 "Scandals" are supposed to actually be scandalous.

@AaronOkeanos The Senate is part of Congress. People who think Congress means the House are a really annoying form of ignorance.

Saying that Trump almost won is an exaggeration. This was not actually a close election. Biden won this in a near-landslide. And the reason Trump got so many votes this time is that the population is significantly larger, and 45-48% of voters automatically go for the Republican every time no matter what.
