@nuqwestr The increase in diagnosis of autism correlates with the increased ability to diagnosis as medicine gets more advanced, and the reduced stigma of autism meaning people are more inclined to actually take their kid to a doctor for the diagnosis instead of just trying to hide it.

Maher has always been a kook when it comes to medicine.

@cherijacobs6378 That is a blatant lie.

While the specific genes causing it have yet to be identified, the fact that twin studies show a less than 1% chance of only one of the pair being on the spectrum (ie they either both are autistic or neither is) makes it pretty clear that genetics are the primary cause. We also know that autism beings with brain development in the womb, and since there is no vaccination of fetuses, we can safely conclude that vaccines aren't a factor.

@somethingginterestingg4275 He's not reasonable at all. We do have double blind studies for vaccines. Claiming that those studies need to last multiple years is complete bullshit, though. (FYI, when RFK Jr claims that Fauci said in the past that it should be 8 years, that's a lie.)

@seldenintegrativehealing Really, a study with all vaccines on the schedule? That's not how any of this works. The reality is that there is absolutely no biological mechanism by which it would be possible for vaccines to cause autism. Autism is genetic, and it begins in the womb.
