  1. Authoritarian dictators are notoriously bad at "sharing power", so there's little chance of this confederation succeeding. And at some point, Nigeria (which has a larger military than Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso combined) is likely to step and overthrow the juntas. They're reluctant to intervene militarily, but that won't last forever.
