The Mustang (!) was a design for the Brits in the first place! The Yanks thought the P-40 was a good enough improvement over the P-36. Now wasn’t there some story about the engines?

Who made the Meteor and the Vampire jets?

Wash-out gave lower incidence at the tips so that when the roots were significantly stalled the outer wing with the ailerons was still flying. So the original Spitfire roots stalled first.

Take off swing is NOT caused primarily by torque, it is from the powerful propeller slipstream making the wind over the vertical stabiliser come slightly from one side producing strong yaw. Jets had massive central spools and blade wheels spinning at enormous revs and the much bigger torque really didn’t make them swing on take off. Pure torque would be corrected by aileron anyway which might or might not produce adverse yaw depending on the aileron design.

The horizontal stabiliser shadow didn't mean that the tail was swept forward!

The plane's construction was more precise giving a cleaner passage through the air. British and especially German manufacture was more utilitarian and gave a poorer fit. That is the real reason for the P-51 being fast.

No money to redesign the Spiteful wing with undercarriage moved behind the centre of gravity, the radiators went so there was space. Supermarine Swifts had tricycle gear.

Horrible stall and a lower Mach limit than the Spitfire.
