@engima3196 people use religion and institutions to assign meaning to life and also to control you with fear and guilt involved, they know if we don't know the meaning of life we want to find our own meaning and a lot of people would be more hedonistic naturally

@engima3196 Stephen hawking could make an argument about religious institutions and their control for hundreds of years debating if god exists at all seems silly to me it's not really easy to prove either way

@vashstampede4878 yes but also a lot of intelligence can be learned they teach you basics at most schools and then keep you dumb, I studied culture/sociology and history on my own and when I talk about people like Hirohito people are like who? School barely teaches about finances or how to survive family life.

@ljramirez my mom is religious she said the dinosaurs had to exist in the last thousands of years and humans are only roughly 10,000 years old

@lukec5623 for awhile western world was Judeo-Christian and eastern was Islam Buddhist Hindu Confucian etc...clearly it impacted cultures that's how we can say western world and eastern world

@InChrist03 I've read some things about the Catholic church and historically it wasnt pretty, all the major reformers were atheist or highly secular and people working to get rid of child labor were labeled godless radicals.

@nick______5853 people put safety above happiness all the time because our damn survival response system which makes us fight flight freeze and fawn. But I agree people get so stuck in survival mode and don't realize and then ask why am I not happy what's wrong with me I just wanna be happy 🤷

@brandoncoleman4013 life is indeed pain the thing that's weird to me is what trauma even mild trauma does to people and their brain and then they have to spend their adult life trying to learn how to live authentically, I am scared all the time so I don't remember last time I just "lived"
