  1. 16 is the legal age in many jurisdictions for marriage (separate from age of majority which is 18 or 21 normally). That being said, in the original Danish tale, she was 14 😰

  2. ​ @katelynsalazar2491  If they are only half fish, you can only own half. And, since this occurred in 1837 per Danish sources, and if occurred in the US, the merpeople would count as ½ a person for census (see ⅔ for a slave pre-1865).
