It's funny when the host says: "We ALSO read Russian literature: Tolstoy and Dostoevsky" these are fine authors but from the 19 century! Have Americans read Sholochov, Platonov, Fadeev, Bykov, Ostrovski, Ajtmatov, Bulgakov, Vasilijev, Kataev, Nekrassov, Shefner, Shukshin? All not worse than Tolstoy but about the life of Soviet people. No. Americans were cut from the contemporary Soviet literature. They should better watch Rembo movies. The only authors that were allowed were Solzhenitsyn and Pasternak that reflected less rhan 2 % of the mental landscape of Russia.
