There isn't a definite answer to whether kill a character. But you can see in the story when the writers are either too afraid to kill someone, or don't care or want to force it down the viewers/readers throat. On one hand many viewers are (overly) emotionally attached to their beloved character, while others feel disconnected from the story when the characters keep ridiculously emerging from dooming situations every time, completely unharmed. If episode 5 were to kill Luke, the whole SW franchise would have been about Leia, it might have worked but failed as easily as that. Han died just pointlessly. The Song of Ice and Fire shows, that protagonists can very well be killed, as long as there are enough of them. It raises tension, but it's not for readers who can't handle it.

I have posted this idea of remaking TLJ around may on all the youtube videos I found. LOL. At that time it didn't receive much positive feedback. I can't believe someone turned it real and made a twitter account. I want to tune in and give them me money! :)

Yea. And waste even more money. They'd have the chance to course correct the course correction though.

Could Abrams have done anything against the new idiot throwing his plot into the trash? Might be, he knew it and decided that it's better not to care. Still, Abrams as a director/writer is just average. Not as shitty as Rian Johnson, but don't expect a masterpiece either.

I don't care as much for dead Luke, even if he were there, he wouldn't act like the Luke we loved. I'll skip 9 just as I skipped 8.

Throwing away the lightsaber was symbolism for throwing the film into a trash can.

Bring back Lando, and kill him. Or bring back Ghost Anakin. And Kill him. It's time for the Ghost-Jedi... to end. When they announce this to be an all-out war with more places than ever to show fancy explosions, I expect it to be no different from Matrix Revolutions. Impersonal, emotionless and little story. Sigh... They don't get what makes a good film. I don't care.
