Well isn't this the gynocentric matriarchal society the people wanted?
60
Stop overtaxing and regulating the private sector into oblivion?
13
@citizenm9590 Yes we F-ing can! Canada was much better off before him.
11
@mikeb5664 <Some people don't support the ever widening wealth gap in society.> Mostly bitter and envious bottom-feeders.
11
@D59hawk He knows what he's doing. He's turning Canada into Cuba 2.0.
9
<You can't trust the private sector to meet the need for affordable homes because the private sector simply isn't interested.> And they're not interested, because the amount they have to spend on permits and land acquisition in addition to labor and materials makes affordable homes unfeasible.
7
No. There are not that many short-term rentals to begin with. And short-term rentals are consequences of rent control among other forms of government interference that made long-term rentals too costly to operate and maintain.
6
@carlose6010 No. This only applies to Canada.
6
By being isolated, backward, impoverished and obsolete.
5
Better than the compassionate spendthrift Pierre Trudeau.
5
@@AmericanScout-USA Yet more Canadians travel to the US for healthcare than vice versa.
5
This is the result of high taxes and regulations on local production and distribution of food. This is how a lot of countries that adopted socialism/communism ended up with food shortages and famine having to rely on imports and aid just to feed themselves.
5
@HeremodofGotha Why so ungrateful? Canada never had any obligation to let immigrants in.
4
More taxes = higher prices.
4
<what is the point in paying so much taxes and our government keeps giving that money away to other countries> To pay the salaries of bureaucrats, administrators and other government workers.
4
And Air BnB is because the government made long-term rentals costly and unviable.
4
Thanks to high taxes and government meddling.
4
@jmela1370 <Why is it stupid> Because ordinary people will be paying for it in the end either by higher prices, less housing available or becoming the greedy RE investors they wanted targeted.
4
<Shutting the door is not the answer.> Yes it is.
4
LOL.
4
@ClarityDetermination LOL. Put down that Liberal Kool-Aid!
3
Also ignorant and irresponsible citizens who vote for said government and policies.
3
Good luck on finding a place.
3
@kevinroy1736 He was the only PM that bothered to do anything about the GST while Chretien who was elected to do away with it kept it around as it proved too lucrative.
3
People trying to live a lifestyle their salaries just simply cannot support.
3
<Abolish the foreign ownership restriction.> Virtually all countries, including the US, have foreign ownership restrictions. The real problem is that Canada is just too vast and underpopulated to support lower prices for domestic travel.
3
Because Canada has too much ground to cover and the population centers are far from each other.
3
Because due to zoning laws and high land values, Tridel couldn't build an affordable home even if it wanted to.
3
<(not everyone are homeowners)> But 66% of Canadians are homeowners.
3
@Cutlerypotato LOL
3
<This is scary where we as a country are heading into.> Think Lenin's Russia/USSR.
3
Namely British Columbia and Ontario.
3
And Seattle has no state income tax.
3
<There’s literally no excuse to have almost our entire population crammed into 2 regions (Vancouver and Toronto)> There is an excuse. Vancouver and Toronto are the only places in Canada deemed worth living in.
3
@danimal_666 No. Thanks, Pierre Trudeau.
3
Pretty much.
3
@veronicadicerni2479 Not that difficult to do in Quebec.
2
<people don't have the funds to grow rheir business.> The bigger the government, the less (economic and personal) freedom you get to enjoy.
2
It is the government's fault. Their polices enabled and created the problem.
2
@josephsmith594 <The US has the same housing problems we do.> Only in the Northeast and West Coast.
2
Actually government meddling is the reason the housing market is what it currently is.
2
@fluffytail6355 Thanks to people from ON and BC moving in.
2
@zomgoose While tenants are lousy with personal finances.
2
@BigCheese150 Canada is more Argentina than Venezuela.
2
@danielwarchulski6326 Because no one wants to be seen as a racist xenophobe if they dare suggesting limiting immigration.
2
LOL. I didn't know know they were in charge of (mass) immigration, permits and national monetary policy.
2
Who's no one?
2
Especially when you're living beyond your means.
2
Starting with yours.
2
Another public-sector worker.
