Because we didn't have a million immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers added to the overall population count at a time until Trudeau took office.
1
@ariel-th6fj Thanks to McGuinty and Wynne.
1
Because high taxes and over-regulation discourage it.
1
But plenty of money to pay for administrators and bureaucrats.
1
Every province except Alberta has rent caps.
1
<Thanks to the degenerate capitalist in Canada who sold out our own people to make a couple of extra dollars> Which would be Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
1
@MemoryAmethyst While Canada is a UK/US/China/India outpost.
1
@tailiu223 Namely the 34% that rent with most of them being city folks.
1
Marx and Stalin would have been so proud.
1
Like a Cuban citizen.
1
Thanks to inflation.
1
But still pay more taxes than the poor and much of the middle class combined.
1
Marx and Lenin are smiling from Hell.
1
Interestingly, the only time communism worked was when it was toned down and capitalist reforms were implemented as the left would call fascism. USSR under Khrushchev and China under Deng.
1
Let me guess. It's only freedoms and democracy when the left are in charge to tax those who work and produce for a living to subsidize the "less fortunate."
1
You mean government-protected companies.
1
<The feds in the 80's (I dont know if it was Pierre Trudeau or Brian Mulroney) cut funding to the CMHC for that purpose> Actually it was in the 90's. And it was Jean Chretien who officially pulled the plug on affordable housing.
1
@sureshotfire1 In addition to being overtaxed and regulated.
1
Basically a 21st century version of what the USSR had under Lenin.
1
Who's running British Columbia, the province with the highest average rent in the country?
1
@randyreadstheholyquran2342 There's Saskatchewan and Quebec among them. Both are run by right-leaning governments yet the housing crisis is not nearly as bad.
1
@funbags6471 And Mulroney came to be because of the bad shape Trudeau Sr. left Canada in.
1
@flaccidsteel5094 But foreign students are allowed to.
1
Maybe Jagmeet will do the same.
1
Rent control and tenants' rights working exactly as intended.
1
What were Zeller's or Eaton's excuses?
1
Not really as many will waste it eventually becoming a burden and threat those who manage what they have wisely.
1
Which only means higher housing prices for families.
1
That most people still wouldn't be eligible for anyway. Condos are being built, because thanks to zoning restrictions, that's the only high-density housing legally allowed to be built within city limits.
1
<Canada is the second largest geographical country.> But the vast majority of the population live in the cities and metro areas.
1
Living off of those who are willing to take a risk.
1
@Holiday25832 Largely thanks to the government.
1
@dandyone_123 Plus, workers can already own the means of production in capitalism. It's called entrepreneurship and starting your own business. But apparently, a lot of workers don't want the legal and financial responsibilities of ownership so they much rather have someone else do it on their behalf and falsely claim it as theirs along with the revenues generated just because they were lucky enough to get hired.
1
@Holiday25832 But have high suicide rates and household debts.
1
@Holiday25832 <also the Scandinavian countries are the closest thing to socialism in today's world > According to leftists desperately looking for anything resembling a socialist success story as the socialism they really wanted (USSR, Red China, etc.) embarrassed them.
1
@mightyoaks9331 Building affordable homes is just not feasible especially in the face of high real estate and building costs.
1
<simply taking care of eachother...> Because we don't owe any care to other people. That's reserved for family and friends. <Definitely part of the problem but also a major contributor to that is the lack of people that actually want to work essential jobs like construction.> Partly due to safety reasons.
1
The many are every bit as greedy.
1
@sharinglungs3226 That and condos.
1
@jamesbarry1673 <In 15 months when the Democrats sweep back into power > And peddle the same policies that made guys like Trump a necessity. LOL. Trump didn't get into power for no reason.
1
And also 3rd most expensive place to live in the world.
1
Living vicariously through the US.
1
LOL. Interesting how Canadians can't afford to have children yet they can afford to live lifestyles that are well beyond their means. Household debt be damned!
1
Well in all fairness, most non-rich people are stupid and the policies they voted for will eventually bite them in the butt on the back end.
1
Cuba and North Korea.
1
<Most people prefer to live where all the major cities are because that's where all the jobs are.> Also services and social support.
1
<were only building condos> Due to high real estate and building costs.
1
@joeposteraros Actually yes given where those condo are being built.
1
@kmm1863 <This is a main reason why healthcare in Canada is govt controlled> And now Canadians are suffering from it in the form of staffing shortages, inability to get timely care, etc.
1
With the amount that had to be paid for land, permit and construction, what makes you think they were going to be affordable? Plus, condos are not for average folks anyway.
