<Raise taxes on the rich. Put in price controls on rent. Build Government run affordable housing units.> With the rich being your next-door neighbor doing a tad better than you. Price control = Venezuela, we have a new challenger. Only to become poverty, blight and crime-ridden slums within a couple generation.

And yet the economy stagnated then collapsed. In East Germany and other socialist states' cases, the USSR cut off the aid and they had no real economy to fall back on.

But rent control is also a big factor in why Air BnB and renovictions exist.

Rent control enabled Air BnB, renovictions and corporate property ownership.

@travismoore22 <Maybe they shouldn't ve landlords in the first place.> Then who will tenants rent from since few of them are in any financial position to buy their own place?

<Create a law to limit rent costs in different areas,> We already did that. Hence the Air BnB and renovictions. <investors will then be forced to sell their properties, > Or leave the properties to crumble calling for demolition as that is deemed more profitable than renting to bad tenants they cannot legally evict in a timely manner.

You have also feminism to thank. Feminism led to single people and childless couples needing homes along with mass immigration to make up for all the babies not being had.

Just because it's a basic human need does not make it a right. No one is owed or obligated to provide anything. <A system that must create shortages to create ever higher profits year upon year.> Better that than a system that consistently has shortages because it cannot meet said basic human needs in an adequate let alone efficient manner. There's a reason why socialism failed.
