@justintrudoo Since when did socialism support mass immigration?
16
What about the property taxes, repair and maintenance costs and insurance premiums?
10
Can't blame the landlords when there are people willing to pay those rents.
10
@atesah <people are entitled however to have shelter> No they're not. Terms and conditions exist for a reason.
6
<Wage stagnation is also a problem factor here…> And currency devaluation.
6
<They don't care about renters.> Why should they? They don't owe renters anything.
5
They do especially as they were the ones who took on the legal and financial risks of ownership.
5
<Food and shelters are basic living essentials.> But you're still not entitled to them. Neither are you entitled to demand that someone else provide it against his/her will for free if not at a steep discount.
5
<Hearing a landlord complain that the tenant is not paying rent shows that the landlord does not understand the relationship between incomes and rents and as such I have no sympathy for these people> Just like tenants don't understand that the rising rents are a consequence of rising costs to keep the rental unit operational. The property and land taxes, mortgages and interest rates, utility costs, repair and maintenance, insurance, etc.
5
@atesah Yet you still wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.
5
@Doraemonhandle It never really was. That's why in most cities in the world, the poor live on the outskirts.
4
@finn6988 Housing is not a right. There's a reason why landlords and property-owners don't rent or sell to just anyone.
4
And public housing = slums.
3
How? A lot of jobs cannot be done remotely.
3
But most won't because the other places are not as desirable. It's either Toronto, Vancouver or bust.
3
@timber543 Translation: nowhere else they deem appealing.
3
But the Liberal/NDP-voters moving in from Ontario are trying to change all that.
3
@MedicalAutonomyProject They barely even pay the existing doctors.
3
1) For what? Living in a place you can't afford is not a right. Either pay up or move out to somewhere you can afford. 2) Meaning higher taxes for everyone else to support it putting some in poverty in the process.
3
And tenants are entitled losers. You don't have the right to live in a place you can't afford.
3
Not really. Federal and provincial governments are part of the problem.
3
@A99-b6h The poster didn't come from privilege.
2
Entitled tenant.
2
@Deruwugen Says who?
2
@The Great Gazoo Who's the right people?
2
@rebeccahillsares8253 < but people are suffering. > Some of them by their own doing.
2
<Like Finland we could through the Canada Pension Fund > And leave people without a pension by the time they reach eligibility age.
2
Just like no sympathy for tenants. Step your budgeting game up.
2
@TheClownWorldShow Pretty much. Also conservative politicians. Yet the cities they're complaining about not being able to afford to live in are as liberal/left-wing as they come.
2
Government restrictions.
2
Raised by Boomers and Gen-Xers.
2
<Tenants have a right to housing > But landlord have the right to set the terms and conditions housing will be provided under.
2
Due to construction costs, permit fees, etc.
2
Because due to local zoning laws, those are the only high-density housing they're legally allowed to build in the city.
2
<Housing is a human right.> Says who? <Tenants have rights.> So do landlords. <It is not a human right for arseholes like the big landlord in this story to make more money.> Actually yes it is as he was the one who put up the money to buy the property.
2
@MentionBiscuit How about buy your own place?
2
<renters cannot.> They should have save some of their money and bought the property themselves. It's not the landlords' fault that a lot of renters rather party and BS barely getting by than invest in their own futures.
2
Canada is finding out the hard way like Sweden it cannot have a welfare state and open borders at the same time. The Gulf states have welfare but it's restricted to citizens, namely ethnic locals only.
2
user-dx5em7om4t And probably vote for the same kind of politicians and policies that caused her/his son to flee Ontario.
2
Empathy doesn't pay utility bills, insurance premiums, repair and maintenance fees, mortgage or property taxes.
2
Enabled and facilitated by even greedier governments.
2
@mauriceharting5877 And left countless countries including Russia bankrupt.
2
@mauriceharting5877 <It requires politicians and the public sector to sacrifice some of their financial advantages when compared to the private sector by lowering their salaries with the result of lowering taxes> And laying off public-sector workers.
2
Black people need to think beyond just being workers and renters always at the mercy of others.
2
@minoozolala And tenants are incredibly entitled. Always wanting more than they're willing to pay.
2
Zoning restrictions. And the fact that Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are where the jobs at.
2
The rich save and invest while the poor spend all they have.
2
@katherinespencer2073 Exactly.
2
Corporations are the reason why the country has a middle class.
2
South and East Asians.
