@scottknight8265 Translation: tax anyone who's not completely poor. That's what the USSR did to the kulaks and China did to the small shopkeepers.

@FA-kt3is <No one should be in a position to choose between life and death, or shelter or food just because of not enough money> Partly due to financial mismanagement.
3
@cody709 More likely due to poor budgeting than the high living costs. If you're making 150K and still struggling, there's a good chance that you're the problem and not the major city's living costs.
3
Alberta.
2
@WATCHLLS At least they get medical help while in Canada you'll probably be dead before medical help can come in time.
2
@dano3952 So did Pol Pot in Cambodia.
2
LOL. No they won't.
2
@methatguy5996 Venezuela. That free money from oil Chavez handed out helped destroy whatever private sector and local industry it had having to rely on imports to feed itself.
1
@rigg4146 It was redistributed all right. Namely to Party elites.
1
@methatguy5996 <but they're not a failed country.> Thanks to Deng's capitalist reforms in the 80's and Clinton's outsourcing of US manufacturing jobs on the 90's.
1
@methatguy5996 No. The UBI helped undermine the local economy and industry. <The fact is Norway and Finland are the closest thing this planet has ever seen to a UBI, and they're doing just fine.> Was it implemented nationwide? Or was it just implemented on a handful of people as was the case with Finland?
1
LOL. Aside from Pierre-Karl Peladeau and whoever runs Saputo, there are not that many wealthy folks in Quebec.
1
Corporations are the biggest private employer in the country.
1
<Canadians with disabilities need out help from fellow Canadians.> That's what MAID is for.
1
Like they already did with EI.
1
Eliminate or really perpetuate poverty by (co-)dependency.
1
Wrong! Governments do. Corporations have nothing to do with high taxes and reckless spending .
1
LOL
1
Children are not old enough to work.
1
Mostly likely the latter.
1
@dano3952 Not really. It's only so if you don't have the skills, ambition or smarts for anything better.
1
LOL <1000 get 100 dollars and we all spend it in no time, so the economy moves $100,000 forward.> You all spend it only to cry about being broke and hungry the next day. There's a reason why whatever successes socialism achieve are short-lived.
1
Like it saved the average Venezuelan's?
1
@Ryan-vc4lr But will have little to buy as there's no longer any industries that produce or sell anything.
1
@Ryan-vc4lr <That's just not the case..> Yes it is. See Venezuela.
1
<There has to be a point in society where working to live is no longer a part of survival.> But no society survived on laziness. Even animals have to work.
1
@RDGray <There will be a time in the future when robotics, automation and AI will do most of the work for us.> That is until they break down requiring human repair and maintenance. <It's about having the ability and resources to discover your passions and being given the ability to pursue and fulfill them.> Only to end up creating a soft society that cannot feed or defend itself.
1
@dano3952 Europe is just barely a generation removed from its fascist/communist days. It figures.
1
To the delight of the government.
1
Very much.
1
<167 Billions collected from Canadians in 2020 in income tax > With a good portion of those Canadians employees of said corporations you want to tax.
