And the hands the power just changed to often turn out even more oppressive towards the people proving that most revolutionaries are just self-seeking power-mongering opportunist POS's with delusions of grandeur.
84
And in order to make communism work, re-education camps and genocides have to be employed.
76
@liamwilson5670 LOL. Canada is only doing well because of the English. French Guiana is a French Overseas Department, hence still a colony. Louisiana is far from doing well as it's the 2nd poorest State in the US. Vietnam only after it adopted some capitalism like China and it actually ditched French for English.
73
@walidlahouaoui9272 Yes it is.
45
Exactly! And it's also not the DR's fault that Haitians continue to elect POS's for Presidents, then want to flee when what they voted for makes their lives unbearable in the long run.
20
Women of color like Asians, Arabs and Latinas?
13
1manuscriptman And before Trujillo, the DR was equally as poor as Haiti.
13
Agreed. The DR doesn't owe Haiti a thing.
13
Doesn't mean much in a borderline non-existent economy.
10
Which includes the Haitian Massacre, Africa's complicity in the Slave Trade, Africa's current problems having plenty to do with the policies of its post-independence leadership conducted by wannabe Marxists as opposed to colonialism, etc. By the way, I'm Black.
8
But being poor in the US >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> being poor almost everywhere else.
7
Pol Pot and communism destroyed Cambodia far more than the French did.
7
@jordynalexander4153 Most of them are of the half-White half-Indigenous variety.
7
@t00bgazer And replace it with socialism where you can forget about even attempting to get out of poverty.
7
There never really was a time when governments served the people. Governments throughout history and more or less right now always served themselves and privileged elites with the people being an afterthought.
6
@ joseline calderon LOL You must have never heard of Colombia or Chile. Capitalism is literally the reason they're two of the best-off countries in the region whereas socialism ruined Guyana and is currently ruining Venezuela. Interestingly, the CIA turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Chile.
6
@bogdanzivkovic8711 No they don't
6
How so? France hasn't had anything to do with Haiti since 1947.
5
@Kristoff Bjorgman Well, in all fairness, the white French had it coming for their mistreatment of the Haitians.
5
@powerfighter2554 Nothing is stopping Haiti from being self-sufficient but the Haitian government and Haitians themselves.
5
<Praying Haiti gets good Leadership that cares for their people soon and can become prosperous Country.. > Like the first 4 Emperors for life they had?
5
Zimbabwe has just entered the chat.
4
Better question: what if Castro didn't destroy the local private sector and have to depend on outside aid to prop up the economy?
4
No. Try the Cuban government. It's responsible for the doctors' low salaries.
4
For what?
4
@danielwong6971 "Better healthcare," but no basic supplies or medicine. And patients have to buy some of them themselves from the black market.
3
Cuba is a truly socialist country. The collective of people do decide the wages. That collective of people just happens to be the Cuban government led by Raul Castro.
3
@theosvult4857 Only because it's in Canada, a one-time British colony.
3
The implementation is not the problem here. It's the results. And the results are what socialism/communism is and have consistently ended up being.
3
Not really as it would let Haiti off the hook and unjustly burden the DR.
3
@ethan.000 No. Just Black people. And even Black people themselves want nothing to do with Haiti.
3
I don't understand why you're idolizing the public sector which leeches off of the private sector.
3
@allisonjuno7654 But they produce the same old results. So whatever differences they may have are negligible. Democratic socialism? Like the one Venezuela currently practices? Or the one that crippled Jamaica for the next 45+ years?
3
@gingergoesoutside8207 True. And like every other Soviet client state, Cuba collapsed when the USSR stopped supporting it.
3
@lfsmjinx5928 In Canada, specifically Quebec, we have such a thing. Government-subsidized private schools.
3
That's because your boss owns the place and is responsible for why you even have a job in the first place.
3
The rest of the world should learn to defend themselves and spend money on their own military.
3
France hasn't had anything to do with Haiti since 1947.
3
But that debt was eventually paid off in the 40's. Much of Haiti's current problems are internal.
3
Only in certain cities like New York, San Francisco, etc. Other than that, hardly. The average American's $20/hour beats the average Cuban's $20/month any day of the week.
3
The embargo is nothing compared to the loss of outside aid that propped up a non-existent economy due to the Cuban government's wholesale repression.
3
@radioactivedude2762 Thanks to communism and Mengistu Haile Mariam.
3
Just like there's no mention of how Castro destroyed private enterprise and in turn Cuba's ability to to sustain itself long-term living off of USSR (foreign aid), Canada (tourism), Venezuela (oil) and the very same USA (remittance and food) it sneers at along with renting out its doctors like prostitutes.
3
But the DR is paradise in comparison to Haiti. You can ask even the Haitians themselves.
3
That's if you enjoy living under the government's jackboot.
2
It was your fellow Africans that sold you to the White people that brought you here.
2
That's because China is a one-party totalitarian regime. Of course the people don't have any power.
2
Exactly.
2
@konway17 It is the best. So much so that millions including kids risk their lives to live there. And they sure are not thinking about those thousands of kids that go to school hungry.
2
They were colonized by Moors once.
