The Gambia like many other African countries already did that. Nationalize the natural resources. What has that done besides enrich governments and the well-connected while letting the people starve?
1
@michellekabanga3612 LOL. No.
1
Not really. Judging by the vast majority of people who haven't engaged in unsavory activity in the face of their situations, poverty is anything but. I'd say idleness is more the driving force. <Simple solution that no government really wants to achieve, two to three square meals a day for each and every citizen.> And where is this infinite supply of food going to come from to do that?
1
Not really. Very few people in poverty are engaging in prostitution as most are not that desperate.
1
<Maybe those rich tourists should make donations for food and medecines and creates legal and self-respect jobs in tourism for Gambia, instead of taking advantage of someone who dreams of a better life.> No. That's the job of the Gambian government. This dependency mentality is part of the reason why the Gambia will stay in a rut.
1
Your thoughts Not mine Maybe so, but it's not the White man's fault that those many Asian countries freely chose to welcome them with open arms, open hearts, open legs and open borders.
1
People from the government are not innocent. They are collaborators, hence guilty.
1
<This is a global proooblem based on socio economical and patriarchal issues> Not really. Not all countries are dependent on tourism as their primary source of income.
1
That's pretty much most of the Caribbean.
1
Easier said than done as the government and the model does everything they can to undermine them.
1
No. The real problem is that the government WON'T take care of all its inhabitants of the country. And it figures when it controls most of the economy and hardly allows its own people to make money for themselves.
1
Alongside their local enablers and collaborators.
1
What's wrong with entrepreneurship?
1
Because America is not dependent on tourism to pay its bills. Not even tourism-heavy Florida. Plus, you said it yourself. America's sex tourism is domestic.
1
Not really. But their misunderstanding of religion coupled with socialism made them lazy and dependent on the sky or some benevolent tyrant to solve all of their problems.
1
Ditto for the prostitutes' families.
1
The Gambia is a Muslim-majority country.
1
Most of the tourists who go to the Gambia are not elite, but ordinary middle-class people.
1
Pretty much.
1
No. The love of money is the root of all evil.
1
1 500 Euros = 94 065 Dalasi
1
Why should she? It's not like Africans care about other Africans.
1
All those Arabic countries are ruled by monarchs and theocrats. The people have next to no say over what goes on.
1
Which is a product of bad economic policy.
1
Exactly.
1
With help from other Africans.
1
Not really, Not all poor countries are desirable destinations.
1
Namely European men.
1
@MrAmhara You had that chance under Lincoln until he got assassinated.
1
Marxist thieves, that is.
1
Exactly.
1
The problems would still exist. It's just that the locals will be the ones doing the exploiting.
1
Poverty or no poverty, prostitution is a choice. Blaming poverty is a convenient excuse for lack of integrity.
1
A corrupt government is not going to save the children.
1
LOL
1
That corrupt leadership are most likely descendants of collaborators of said colonizers.
1
But Nigeria is barely capitalist to begin with.
1
Agreed.
1
<The leaders will not stand up for us because they don't care as long as they're right wealthy and the poor is still poor works for them.> Exactly.
1
State-run economy.
1
Poverty due to mismanagement/misappropriation/misuse/misallocation of resources.
1
Namely Eastern Europe.
1
@wanelly No. Ignorance, greed and laziness do.
1
It's not just the leadership but the people themselves.
1
@Visionary_of_Love And the lack of opportunities because the government doesn't care about anyone except themselves, their well-connected privileged friends and wealthy foreigners.
1
And people will starve because most of their economy is dependent on the government.
1
<It's sad. Unfortunately, Gambia is not the only country going through this. Its every country were the poverty level is astronomically high and wages absurdly low.> And a lot of it has to do with the government controlling too much of the economy.
1
<Corruption and poverty cause prostitution every were> No it doesn't.
1
Yeah! But they better not come begging the rest of society to pay their medical bills from the AIDS and other STD's they contract while at it.
1
The government.
