No. Remove the command economy model. Period.
7
How? Cuba doesn't produce much worth trading thanks to mismanagement and killing off the successful and productive. Ditch the command economy and really watch Cuba prosper.
6
No. It's real.
6
@DKX365 There is no embargo on food or medication except the one by the Cuban government via import bans and high tariffs.
4
Namely the Party elites like Diaz-Canel, the Castros, etc.
4
Don't you just love how revolutionaries/freedom-fighters/liberators/etc. become the very oligarchs/oppressors/1%-ers they rail against?
2
First end the cowardly blockade and embargo by the Cuban government against its own people.
2
@MrCrashDavi North Korea is not doing fine even with all the Chinese support.
2
The Cuban government has not done itself any favors with its glaringly inefficient command economy model. It's only so long they and you can keep blaming the US for their woes.
2
Courtesy of the Cuban government.
2
How about the loss of foreign aid and lack of local industry due to Cuban government repression?
2
@gregorymunn484 The only embargo going on is that by the Cuban government.
2
@LautaroTessi Exactly.
2
@Spectre You have only the Cuban government to thank for that.
2
LOL. Sanctions or no sanctions, the US has no obligation to do business with and provide for hostile regimes. And who told Cuba to kill off their farmers and other (wealth)-producers rendering the country unable to feed itself?
1
<Americans aren't stupid.> <But orange whiner wants to make us live under these horrible govts> But who needs him when you can have his haters do that instead? They all run the major cities that have housing projects and serious crime problems.
1
Yet no food, no jobs, a worthless local currency, shoddy housing, no basic utilities. <CUBA is far BETTER than them or any country in Latin America> And yet hundreds of thousands of Cubans much rather live in those other Latin American countries and the US.
1
Badly.
1
Embargo does not apply to food aid or remittances.
1
And made himself the bourgeoisie.
1
Communism doesn't work, because it's an oxymoron often being everything capitalism is accused of and then some.
1
The sanctions are nothing compared to the loss of foreign aid and economic repression by the Cuban government.
1
<Workers never had any genuine control over the econom> Which is a good thing as they don't have the expertise, wisdom or acumen for that.
1
@irvingsanchez2279 China under Mao. Mongolia under Choibalsan. Ethiopia under Mengistu. Romania under Ceausescu. Guyana under Burnham.
1
Like it was pre-Revolution when Batista ran it.
1
Look no further than the housing projects in any major city.
1
In the form of central planning and economic repression courtesy of the Cuban government.
1
Thanks to capitalist reforms undertaken by Deng in the 80's along with Western manufacturing jobs being outsourced in the 90's. Interesting how socialism only works when it's toned down.
1
@adriel1478 America doesn't have empty shelves. Try harder, tankie!
1
No. Brought to you by SOCIALISM. Leaving countries bankrupt and backwards since 1917.
1
Fascism is a communist idea.
1
Oh really? So how did socialist Somalia and communist Yugoslavia manage to get US support back in the day? Maybe the US imposed sanctions on Cuba not merely because it adopted socialism but because Castro seized all of the US-built and funded private enterprises at the time he got into power? Never mind it allying with the USSR and threatening to nuke the US on Moscow's orders.
1
Communism is the issue. <Don't forget the blackouts every day due to lack of diesel to run their generating plants.> Due to Venezuela collapsing, so there went all the free oil Cuba used to get.
1
Cuba is anything but overpopulated.
1
No. Try communism running its natural course.
1
@redacted3740 The US outranks Cuba in healthcare. And Cuba's higher life expectancy is due to all the working-age people that fled the country leaving the elderly behind.
1
@redacted3740 Nope. Overall.
1
@jaquino451 Puerto Rico = destroyed by far-left politics.
1
Socialism is not a viable alternative. It had more than 100 years to prove it. Plus, socialism was never anything without capitalism to give it the illusion of viability. <Almost all of Cubas problems are caused by the u.s. and their embargo> The US is not responsible for Castro going out of his own way to decimate local industry becoming dependent on imports and foreign aid just to support Cuba.
1
@adriel1478 It was Castro's doing. So self-reliant yet subsisted on Soviet and Venezuelan aid.
1
<Cuba is under American blockage last 65 years> Yet that was a non-issue when the USSR and Venezuela bankrolled its economy.
1
The Gulf monarchies are dependent on the US military for protection.
1
<There is no industries in Cuba because of the sanctions> By the Cuban government as farmers and producers have to hand over 80% of what they produce to the state.
1
Sanctions courtesy of the Cuban government. God forbid the average Cuban making an honest living, equality be damned!
1
No. The Cuban government is the one at fault for having Cuba like this. After all, aren't they supposed to be self-reliant?
1
Your comment is propaganda. Cuba is suffering now, because there's no Russia or Venezuela to live off of to maintain the facade it put up for the last 60 years.
1
@redacted3740 Debunked by who? Western tankies?
1
@Cat_Guevara No they don't. And certainly not with the frequent blackouts, crumbling buildings, general lack of food and state-suppressed wages.
1
@redacted3740 Sure they do, bot!
1
@redacted3740 LOL. You mean can't stand to see people enslaved by the Cuban government instead. You tankies are pathetic as F!
1
Only because they toned down the communism.
1
Yet interestingly, hundreds of thousands of Cubans much rather be homeless and/or dead abroad than live in squalor and tyranny at home. . Goes to show that free stuff is not an adequate substitute for freedom.
1
Namely one imposed by the Cuban government. They effectively killed off local industry. Russia and Venezuela stopped supporting them. Canadian and European tourists were kept home by COVID restrictions.
1
No it isn't. And equality does not exist.
1
<go wrong in every country that they impose their system it will colapse, because it does not work and will never work> Especially without tyranny or foreign aid to keep it afloat in Cuba's or North Korea's cases.
1
@TheWaleedKhalid USA also supported socialist/communists like Josip Broz Tito and Siad Barre.
1
And that the government has done nothing except hold the country back.
1
Drop the central planning.
1
Trump has nothing to do with this. Take it up with Biden.
1
Thanks to socialists in charge.
1
Only to revert right back to a state, class and money society once humans want nothing to do with the collective and form their own factions like post-Barre Somalia.
1
LOL. Russia hasn't done such a thing since 1990.
1
@laurafair-schulz5550 So was all of the Western Hemisphere.
1
@34口2fds蛋トマgs <Psychotic communist haters have no soul and only care about shoving western ideology down the throat of others.> And neither do psychotic communist-lovers shoving communist ideology down people's throats from the comfort and privilege of the very same Western capitalist countries they denounce.
1
@robertrobski1013 And laid.
1
<We have (in the USA) 60,000 homeless, > Which is a drop in the bucket as the US has 330 million people. <no universal free healthcare for all citizens (unlike virtually every other nation)> LOL. There is no such thing as free healthcare as that's negated by high taxes. Plus, most other nations do not have "free" healthcare. <too-high college costs that ruin many a young person's life, more of our own citizens behind bars than any other nation> Most of them being actual criminals as opposed to North Korea being those who dared disagree with the government. <Castro's original dream, of an egalitarian society with equal distribution of resources, is still rock-solid and---at least in theory---perfectly doable. > Only in uber-kleptocracies where the state and well-connected = rich and everyone else = poor. Cuba being just one example.
1
Nope. Imposed by the Cuban government. Those innocent people are not legally allowed to fish or grow their own food.
1
@acbc3811 Yet Cuba has more prostitution now than it did under Batista. Never mid Castro legalizing it during the 1990's to compensate for the loss of Soviet aid that left the country bankrupt.
1
What Cuban people? You mean the power-mongering Cuban government. And that "different way of living" hasn't worked out for any other country that adopted it either collapsing or resorting to capitalism just to have any claim of being functional.
1
Maybe if the PCC resign and ditch the central planning.
1
Into the bank accounts of PCC elites.
1
<took to socialism which he believed was best for the country.> Only for Cuba to degenerate into Haiti without the instability.
1
But Whites in Cuba still live better than Blacks in Cuba thanks to remittances and running the one thriving industry the country has which is tourism. <Flugencio Bastista> Who was interestingly multi-racial 25% Black while Castro was as White as any Cuban-American.
1
@maheshkurana5809 Having theocrats and communists in charge.
1
<A decade long embargo you can't blame communism for that. > Yes you can. When Russia and Venezuela used to bankroll the economy, the embargo hardly affected Cuba much.
1
@geekuyl6942 Communism is the reason Cuba had to rely on foreign aid as Castro destroyed whatever local industry it had.
