@degamispoudegamis No. The miracles of socialism. US sanctions are not responsible for Cuban doctors' low salaries. Take it up with the Cuban government, their employers.

@pauliewalnuts6734 Fought off US imperialism only to embrace Sino-Soviet imperialism.
2
@Thomas-pt5ug Tell that to Afghanistan, Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

They've done more to set Cuba back than even the harshest of US sanctions.
2
@degamispoudegamis No. The Cuban government is the problem as it has done more to set the country back than any US sanction ever did.

@jamesmorton5017 The core of the problem is Cuba's socialist/communist model. The rest of the Caribbean is every bit as limited in resources and aside from Haiti, isn't nearly as badly off as Cuba.

@krmfgamingnation1482 But Russia and Iran have a strong enough economy to withstand the embargo. Cuba doesn't as Castro destroyed whatever economy it had resigning it to handouts from other countries.

@donhines2151 No. But at least the average American doctor or engineer doesn't have to resort to taxi-driving or prostitution as a 2nd job to make ends meet.

@degamispoudegamis Ditto for Teodoro Nguema, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Daniel Ortega, King Mswati III.

@MarioRodriguez-pd6lp True. But China is still very much a one-party state.

@MarioRodriguez-pd6lp Thanks to Deng Xiaoping.

@jerrynelson5289 Easy to achieve that in a dictatorship. Even Haiti had a stable society under the Duvaliers.
1
@collinsjean2422 Embargoes are of little consequence as Cuba killed off private enterprise and domestic economic productivity a long time ago resigning itself to living off of Soviet, Chinese and US (via remittances) handouts.

@blackluc9875 But no consistent electricity.

@Edilio A Also: DRC Kenya Equatorial Guinea Brazil Ecuador Romania Angola The Gambia Jamaica

Ortega is still around, though.

@anonimus648 And most likely are either trust-fund babies or public-sector workers whose salaries come from the very same working class they claim to have so much solidarity with.
