It's not the US's problem that Venezuela decimated whatever local economy it had with price controls, high taxes and nationalizations en route to being oil-dependent. And then when the prices hit rock-bottom, it had nothing to fall back on.

And also, Cuba is dependent on tourism, outsourcing doctors to other countries in which the government gets 90% of their earnings and remittances from Cubans living abroad to keep the economy afloat.
