There is justification. Most people only want to live in the major metropolitan areas. And major metropolitan areas have only so much space to go around. In Canada, it's either Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal to a lesser extent or death.

But better that than total collapse which is why they sought IMF help in the first place.
14
@donttalkcrap AirBnB is the result of government meddling in the rental market that made long-term rentals non-viable.
14
@REL602 The UK, France, Poland, Germany, Italy, etc.
6
Thanks to being politically well-connected.
5
Not really. Australia is an uninhabitable desert island and most of the population live on the Southeast coast.
5
@ItzCairnsy <I feel bad for Chinese, Indian and Hong Kong residents that genuinely move to Australia since they can't afford homes in their respective countries > That's not why they fled their home countries. Their reasons for fleeing are largely socio-political.
5
<#1 Canada was built by immigrants (like my late grandparents) for immigrants,> Namely European immigrants for European immigrants before Justin's father got elected PM and allowed non-Europeans in en masse.
4
@fudgerace4356 <however Guyana low population does give a big advantage> Not really. Equatorial Guinea is oil-rich with a small population. Barely a million yet 75% live below the poverty line.
4
@blowba Exactly.
4
Because 90% of Canada is uninhabitable.
4
And in turn abolish individual freedom and personal agency.
4
But most of it's not suitable for inhabitation.
3
But most of the land is not suitable for inhabitation.
3
@ChrisJohannsen Who's no one? Arabs and Africans have no problem wanting to speak French.
3
@默-c1r <As you can see from the definition of socialism, it's where "the means of production, distribution, and exchange" are owned by the people. > People as in bureaucrats and government officials.
3
How about lowering if not abolishing income tax altogether?
2
@Thang-qo4ow Switzerland doesn't have any of those either, yet didn't need socialism/communism to achieve that.
2
@LucasFernandez-fk8se Due to high bureaucracy and building costs along with the mass immigration-induced demand.
2
Too bad under socialism, you'll have none of the five.
2
Only to end up either privatized or left to crumble due to mismanagement and lack of investment.
2
This is preferable to living under Conservatives rule.
2
While embracing the same socialism a lot of immigrants fled from.
2
Or didn't save during their working years living beyond their means.
2
Austerity is the result of economic mismanagement, excessive borrowing and money-printing and debt.
2
It went against the feminism and homosexuality they were promoting.
2
Largely imposed by the state.
2
What does government over-regulation have to do with capitalism?
2
Exactly.
2
Justin's step-daddy laid the foundation.
2
@shari9721 Simple. Better weather. Lower taxes. Better pay.
2
No white-collar jobs.
2
@Ash-cb8qu Immigration = high demand for something of limited supply.
2
Land suitable for inhabitation is scarce as most of Australia is a desert.
2
Before that, Canada was an appendage of the UK.
2
<the false idea that that private builders will build affordable homes (Instead they build fewer homes at higher prices for more profit). > Well, they're not building or renting/selling anything at a loss. And they build fewer homes at higher prices for profit to cover the high costs of building and land acquisition.
2
@MerryXmasMfkrs You can't love immigrants if you love socialism as socialism and open borders do mot mix.
2
Government over-regulation created Air BnB.
2
Nope. All because of government policy.
2
@默-c1r In socialism, the government are the billionaires.
2
<One important question is why do people want to move en masse to these overpopulated, polluted cities. > Because that's where all the jobs, amenities, services and social support are at. <If it's because of work, then it seems that pushing for the right to work remotely is actually an important societal issue.> Not everyone works an office job.
2
And local governments.
2
@sdrc92126 There is no both. Can't you see right now that the model is coming apart?
2
Increase taxes = increased costs for buyers on the back end.
2
And the people who voted for them. There's a reason democracy is not a sustainable form of governance.
2
But the Australian government and business elites do.
2
Part of the problem is everyone only want to live in the big cities.
2
Nah. He's a combination of Stalin and Pol Pot.
2
@ChrisJohannsen No. And not even close.
2
It's only impossible if people insist on living in the big city where they have to compete with well-to-do foreigners and locals alike more than willing to pay the higher prices.
