But the problem is anyone can be poor.

<A dictator or monarch like in Dubai just lets development happen and prices remain affordable.> But not many people are willing to sacrifice freedom for that.
1
And rightfully so since the landlords invested a lot of money into said existing land. They're not giving it up for free.
1
<countries where 'blacks in the inner city' have never been a concern of anyone because they simply don't exist.> Because none of those countries ever had a sizeable number of blacks to begin with and for the most part still don't compared to the US.

Exactly.

@Ruckus45 Exactly.

@dscoduc Exactly.

Namely because of what it entails. Low property values, decay, blight, crime, etc.

Since when was did retail service jobs pay livable wages?

Housing is not a human right. Never was.
1
@Smerpyderp It isn't. If it is a right, then someone would have to be forced against his will to grant it. But at the same time, he should have the right to dictate the terms and conditions under which it will be granted.

Not even the rappers who boast about loving the hood while trying to get themselves and their mamas out. <Problem is, it’s becoming less affordable by the day.> Due to high demand and government-sponsored low supply.

But nope. A lot of jobs require a person's physical presence.

Nor do previously poor blacks who made it like entertainers, athletes and those who landed themselves a good-paying job.

Yet interestingly in Cuba, people have to work a side gig because their state wages are meager. And their social benefits are inadequate.
1
Take that up with the city mayor.
1
So do governments.
1
And many of those inner cities have "affordable" housing in the form of city housing.
1
@Operative34 <ah, blame the poor students who go into debt,> Taking non-productive courses like (insert marginalized group) studies. <real causes, like the megarich and landlords hoarding properties, investors using housing as a way to make money, insufficient supply and a lack of housing choices.> Thanks to government regulations that restricts supply while allowing just anyone in the country.
1
And less crime, because the people there knew how to conduct themselves and the high prices kept the undesirable elements from moving in.
1
But will vote Blue and turn the Red areas into the very same Blue areas they fled from. Left-wing-styled gerrymandering.
1
Due to mass immigration. By Republicans for cheap labor and by Democrats for easy votes.
1
Neither is socialism with its state-imposed scarcity and its mismanagement of resources.
1
Due to high land prices, insurance, property taxes, utility costs, etc.
1
Maybe, but housing is still a privilege.
1
Given the history of the US and its treatment of Black people, it is about race.
