And in many countries including Zimbabwe that did exactly that, the results were production declines, shortages and eventual famine.

  21.  @Madraxoo  Yet Ethiopia under Mengistu wasn't under sanctions. Neither was Tanzania under Nyerere, yet their economies struggled anyway. Venezuela already hit rock-bottom before any sanction was imposed. North Korea regressed well before the sanctions even with all the Soviet and Chinese help.
