Venezuela killed off all of its other industries to prop up the oil one.

The US sanctions started in 2017.

I feel sorry for America under Biden.
3
@sunkem6417 The US doesn't need to sabotage anything. Venezuela has done a much better job of that through mismanagement and ineptitude.
3
Actually under Biden.
2
@turbocharge2512 Before 1993, India was in this group.
2
Namely that imposed by Maduro on his own people.
2
@Ched Sj Yes there is. It's just that in socialism, government bureaucrat = worker. So does Brazil and Nigeria.
1
@livelaughlovingthroughlife Um. No it's not.
1
@Ched Sj I'm referring to who owns the means of production in Venezuela. That would be the government bureaucrats. Classless, my ****! Socialism always had classes. Namely the political elite and every one else. 1% vs. 99% in real-life application.
1
Who's we? And Venezuela is far from overpopulated.
1
Since the much-needed equipment and medicine are held up at the border, that's on Maduro.
1
@livelaughlovingthroughlife Meh. Talk is cheap. The only thing consistent about socialism is the equality part. That is, equality in poverty and misery for the workers and masses.
1
@ValhallaTwice This is socialism. Deal with it!
1
@FredyGomez-xw1ke Haiti is anything but capitalist.
1
@user-xr4bo3ln6f And neither does state-owned media like TeleSUR count.
1
2014.
1
Cambodia already tried that under Pol Pot.
1
No. Subsistence farming doesn't feed whole nations.
1
@davidgaines9853 Exactly! Socialism doesn't work even in countries that were left alone or were propped up by the West like: Ethiopia, India, Romania, Yugoslavia, Guyana, etc.
1
And how's that working out for North Korea?
1
@PauloCarnaxide Not really. Venezuela is social democracy/democratic socialism in practice.
1
Because it's not. And Maduro seems to be doing a much better job of killing children and women all by himself. No outside help needed.
1
Venezuela was already starving before Trump even decided to run for President. Where were you in 2014 when Venezuela ran out of toilet paper of all things?
1
Too bad that same CIA made Chile and Ghana better off in the long run when they ousted their socialist leaders. (Allende and Nkrumah).
1
It has everything to do with socialism as Chavez killed off private industry in favor of oil. Not really as a capitalist government wouldn't be dumb enough to rely on one industry to feed itself.
1
How about make Maduro reinstate free market economy?
1
Like the Chavez family.
1
No. This is what happens when you kill off private enterprise and rely on one industry and a rather shaky one at that to stay afloat.
1
Like Zambia?
