  4. It has everything to do with socialism as it enables corruption and incompetence. Who's there to hold the government accountable as opposition has been effectively neutralized?

  5.  @mfmf100  True. But the problem with Venezuela is the general lack of private enterprise as Chavez and Maduro shut it down. The PDVSA can be state-owned all its wants.

  6.  @Balconetti  Maybe not, but one-party rule is standard fare in socialism. Ditto for central planning. And a powerless opposition is as good as no opposition at all. Venezuela's opposition is powerless. Opposition in countries like Cuba, North Korea, China, etc. just plain don't exist.
