  3.  @graffie88  The UK is much smaller in land mass and more densely populated. Easy to have HSR when there is less area to cover and plenty of population density to support it.

  6.  @TheRandCrews  Until cars and planes became more accessible making passenger rail irrelevant. Never mind that the government lost a lot of money owning it and it was eventually privatized and repurposed for freight.
