It was done to scare good people away from Trumps admin and to corner Trump into having to make picks from a select number of people like Bolton. Bolton is an insider so he was not investigated. If Dessantis or any other non swamp monster wins, you will see the same type of behavior to scare good people away from the admin. Dessantis is more experienced so maybe he would have better responses to these type of tactics.

And they put a 1 year expiration date on the law. It was the most obvious "this law is just for one person". BTW a few others were charged under the law like Mayor Adams.
