I suspect that one of the reasons that the French supports an EU army is so activities like this can be shared with other EU member states, maybe with the French military taking the lead (command). It is laudable to confront ISIS where ever they raise their evil heads, but one must wonder why the french are in Mali. France has a colonial connection with Mali, and therefore a shared language. French involvement may not be that altruistic, given Mali's abundance of natural resources, including gold, uranium, phosphates, kaolinite, saltand limestone. If the French were not there, it is reasonable to believe the Chinese would be, assuming they are not deterred by the ISIS threat.
