Globalisation and free trade are morally blinding. To get what they want as cheap as possible, western governments have been willing to be blind to destruction of the environment and economic exploitation. The high ideals of western states are not consistent with the murderous dictators with which they are willing to trade. However, the Ukraine war has shown that dealing with dictators has a long term cost which may greatly exceed the short term gains.
Globalisation is iniquitous, as it is this which has profited the kleptocratic elite and destroyed so much of the world's environment. Becoming dependent on the likes of Russia and China open the western states up to blackmail, as nothing will sate the greed of these dictorial monsters, they will always want more, eventually leading to very expensive wars.
Paying the blackmailer, just funds their activities.
Western states are just beginning to realise the folly of globalisation, and understand that self sufficiency is the only defence.
Globalisation exports jobs, uses up the planet's resources at an unsustainable rate, and makes human civilisation far less resilient.
Dealing with crooks, thugs and thieves, just to acquire goods is a false economy. Western governments cannot wash their hands by blaming international companies working in a free market, which is really a euphemism for a black market. Governments must set the rules to provide a moral compass, with penalties that exceed any profit advantage.
