  1. It's amazing how willing the Iranian government is to give the western hawks a propaganda victory. A clever strategy would have been to play this down and arrange a quiet pardon. Instead they allow ideology to get in the way of intelligent politics, with the result that the US will again be able to paint Iran as an extremist evil empire in the western media. This will allow the US to impost sanctions and blockade Iranian ports. Any that object in the west will be silenced with pictures of the show trial and imprisoned hostage. Is it really worth imprisoning this woman when it provides the US with such a propaganda I victory.
