It appears that the EU is more willing to recognise the sovereignty of Ukraine, than it is to recognise that of the UK. The purpose of the protocol was to protect the GFA, not the other way round. The EU needs to think about what it is saying. The argument that it is the UK fault for choosing brexit, could be equally about Ukraine seeking independence from Russia.

@robertskolimowski7049 if that is the best you can do to argue your case, you have already lost. The EU is unlikely to attack the .uk with tanks, but the principle is the same. The UK chose to leave the EU, as is its right. Ukraine would not be threatened by Russia, provided it is willing to bend to Putin's will. The UK would not be threatened by the EU, provided it bend to the will of the EU. It seems the protocol is more important than the GFA. As predicted, the latter is being endangered by the former.

@stevekildare4053 Ireland was invaded by Anglo Norman invaders in 1169, If you look up the origin of the Normans, you were in fact invaded by Europe, namely Denmark, Norway and France, who invaded England first in 1066. It is fitting that they are the ones who currently run the irish republic, through the EU.

@hughciarancolgan9180 so is NI.

@hughciarancolgan9180 and the EU were completely ignorant of the problem the protocol would produce. Really!

@harshbutfair8993 and I smell an EU bot, who protects the EU at all costs and does not like the harsh but fair comparison with Russia.

@owenokane9643 the details of the protocol were not fully defined when it was signed. The UK signed it into law, so they have the power to repeal it. The objections to the protocol are coming from NI, and is clearly endangering the GFA. Is the UK government expected to ignore the loyalist objections to the protocol? I watched the first meeting of the NI assembly, at which the point was made that the only group who's views were being ignored was that of the loyalists, who are now in a minority. It was also pointed out that the operation of the last assembly was blocked by the actions of Sinn Fein. The hypocrisy of the nationalists was obvious.

@stevekildare4053 history shows it was a French dominated english aristocracy that engineered the invasion of Ireland.

@dub604 you clearly lack the ability to spot a troll, and I suggest you examine the quality of your own posts before passing judgement on those of others. If anything, your post better fit the definition of troll.

@dub604 I do not understand any of your references. Why are you calling me Vlad, I am not Russian. What are ESL courses? It appears that if you don't like the message, you attack the messenger. It does not make the message any less true.

@gloin10 no it is the eu and the Irish republic failing to recognise the concerns of the DUP. The details of the protocol were not fully defined when it was signed, and it will destroy the GFA if the loyalists decide to return to violence because their concerns are not resolved. It will only take a few violent extremists to make the protocol unworkable, but the republicans know this, as has been demonstrated on the land border.

@gloin10 so you want the UK government to ignore the concerns of this minority. This sounds like nationalist hypocracy. When they were in the minority, they wanted the UK government to take note of their views.
