The EU opened the door for the UK to walk through. Thank you very much.

@vjsilva9792 the EU has shown that it does not care about the GFA, so the UK is now free to bring back the internal markets bill. The EU is already finding that it's involvement in customs control is unworkable, with EU customs officials now targets for the loyalists paramilitaries. In NI such threats must be taken seriously, as there is a history of paramilitary murders. It's ironic that measures which were ostensibly to stop the violence in NI are actually going to promote it. Of course the real reason for the border between NI and the rUK was to force trade to come from the EU, unfortunately for the EU, it is also seen as an attempt to drive Ireland's reunification. The Northern Irish thought they were going to get the best of all worlds, by retaining links with the EU and the UK, but the reverse appears to be happening. It is interesting to note that the UK wanted to break the WA inorder to maintain trade with NI and keep the shop shelves full. The EU wanted to break the WA inorder to deprive NI of covid vaccine, in an attempt to keep it out of the reach of the rest of the UK. So the EU definitely see NI and Ireland as expendable.

@vjsilva9792 yes but the difference is that the EU was showing its willingness to sacrifice Ireland for its own interests. So much for the EU looking after Ireland, it is just a convenient tool. Not sure what you are so happy about, it leaves NI with empty shelves.

@vjsilva9792 you are really dumb if you think this is a threat, it is a way of gaining a £10 billion windfall for the rest of the UK. Scotland might go for independence under the misguided direction of the SNP, but they will find the EU less welcoming than they think. The EU has no appetite to repeat the Greek financial crisis with Scotland. For Scotland to join the EU, its financial prospects would need to be massaged in the same way the Greek figures were. If you think that it took a long time for the UK to leave the EU after a little over forty years of membership, just think how long it will take for Scotland to dissolve a 400 year old marriage. Then the is the little matter of those EU member states who might veto Scotland's membership.
