The EU transition deal has made the transition period meaningless, as all EU rules still apply and the UK is not allowed to negotiate trade relationships for the post transition period. Mrs May has effectively surrendered to the EU by failing to stand firm on any of her red lines.

Mother the point of a transition period was to give the UK economy to adapt to the environment outside the EU. This cannot happen if the UK status is the same as if it had remained within the EU. A transition period is not what I wanted, I want the UK to walk away from the EU paying nothing to it. If fact I think the EU should be paying money to the UK to make up from all the EU assets the UK has financed over the years.

Mother when it comes to weaseling, the remain side seem to have that covered. They are spending all their time trying to ensure the Brexit does not happen or happens in name only. The Brexit vote was perfectly clear, leave the EU and become an independent sovereign country again. It was implicit that this would happen as quickly as possible. I am not responsible for the way closet remainers in the UK government have chosen to interpret the Brexit vote.

My words merely echo the sentiment of your last post, but maybe in less offensive and more eloquent language. You use term such as "spineless" and "pathetic". It would be impolite to use such language about someone from the remain side, at least without knowing more about them. However it does appear that those on the remain side have been cowed by EU threats or deceived by by EU propaganda. They certainly lack the courage to be citizens of a independent sovereign state, preferring to seek comfort in the delusion of safety and prosperity huddled together within the European union. In seems to have escaped your notice that what is good for the other member states, particularly Germany or France, is not necessarily good for you or the UK. Making the Germans rich for example, does not benefit you or the UK in any way, shape or form, in or outside the EU, though they would like you to think so. The EU is a confidence trick, that really only benefits the Eurocrats that control it and the big corporations and banks that use it.

Riemer that maybe how the EU sees it, that is not what is required, the transition period was to allow the UK time to make adjustment to function outside the EU and avoid a step change in the financial and trading environment. As far as losing money is concerned. The UK is under no obligation to pay the EU anything no matter what time it leaves. Any payment made to the EU are subject to being of benefit to the UK, such as continued research projects, or subject to a reasonable trade arrangement post Brexit. The idea that the divorce bill was settled in phase one is a nonsense since nothing is agreed until all is agreed. The UK can still walk away paying nothing. No deal is better than a bad deal.

Mother I am happy with the vote to leave, I will not change that view. The 27 can look after their own affairs, so long as they do not impact on ours. That means no ECJ involvement. Under article 50 there is no requirement for the UK to pay anything to the EU, and therefore the UK should not pay the 27 anything. The EU should not have access to UK costal waters as they did not have access before the UK joined the EU. Basically the UK should be returned to the condition before joining. It should be in the same position of all other independent countries, the EU cannot cling on to any part of the UK or any of its assets.
