@tartarelin there is a difference between having Russian bases on the Mexican border and having NATO in countries around Russian.
NATO is not a country, it's a cooperative for self defence. Russia has shown itself to be an aggressor. It is interesting that you reference NATO anti missile systems. These are clearly defensive weapons against Russian missile attack.
It is Russia that has invaded a former Soviet state, is there are wonder that others are seeking the protection of NATO.
The Russian government is a corrupt elite, who run Russia like the mafia. None of the free former Soviet states want to return rule by the corrupt Russian government. They have the right to chose their government and it'political system. Putin has clearly gone mad, with his deluded of reestablishing the Russian empire. Ukrain is putting a heroic defence of their freedom. it is a war that Putin cannot win, but could lose. Russia is now isolated and returned to the 1960s cold war conditions, a situation that will continue for decades to come, even if Russian forces manage to gain limited control of Ukraine. The Russians must be prepared to fight a long guerrilla War, which will be costly in money and blood. Russia is now hated by 50 million Ukrainians.
Putin is clearly losing the war, or he would not be seeking the help of foreign mercenaries, from the likes of Syria.
The war will end when Putin is dead, let's hope that the war ends very soon.

@tartarelin Putin's actions have nothing to do with the Americans or the threat they pose to Russia. That is just a smoke screen to cover a land grab, intended to be one step closer to rebuilding the Russian empire. Not even the Soviet empire, but the original one of Tsar Nicholas.
The invasion of Ukraine has not made Russia safer, it has made it a target for many international nuclear weapon systems. The US has been able to hit Russia with nuclear weapons for decades, this situation has not been improved by Putin. All Putin has done is unite the greater part of the world against him, reinvigorated NATO and trigger a new cold war arms race.
Russia will now be forced to site behind its new cold war iron curtain for decades. I doubt , if China will be keen to join it their. The Russian economy will be driven back to the 1960s.
One good thing is that it has accelerated the west move away from oil and gas. Something the fossil fuel producers will come to regret, once their short term profits dry up.
The big change is the Putin, has made Russia the very dependent on China, and showing the weakness of its military.
China will buy Russian assets at fire sale prices, and will end up owning Russian industry. Putin has effectively destroyed Russia as a global super power by making China its master.
