thegenie it matters because refugees have the right to sanctuary, while economic migrants have broken the law and have no right to stay. In fact the disrespect for the law is a portent of future behaviour in their adopted country. At least some migrants come from broken countries, where government is dysfunctional or destroyed. A few of these migrants play a part in making so. There is no reason to believe they will not attempt to repeat the process in their adopted country. The clue is in their attitude, making demands rather than requests, expecting the population of the host country to first adjust to, and then adopt the migrants culture.
By taking in so many, Europe is risking destabilisation, socially, culturally and politically.
Remember, democracy is a very fragile way to organise society, it can be lost by a cross at the ballot box, regaining it usually take revolution at the barrel end of a gun.
