@benjamin2149 well they have certainly not gone to ireland, as the eu member states are now making up for the loss of access to uk fishing waters, by fishing in Irish waters.

The EU does not like those prepared to stand up to them. The EU cannot hide behind protecting the GFA, as its actions are endangering it.

Star Gazer this so called unity does not seem to be doing you much good. If the GFA and the preservation of peace in NI was the prime concern, the EU would not be attempting to put a border in the Irish sea. It's yet more EU hypocrisy. You want to solve the problem, then go for reunification. The rest of the UK would significantly benefit from moving the financial and political liability on to the republic and the EU.

Star Gazer and the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, seems putting terrorists in power is common practice these days. The uk government could cut support for NI, and thus force the issue. You waving that irish flag is a bit out of date, shouldn't you be waving the EU flag, after all your ruled from Brussels now.

@pete_lind the eu won't do anything like that, they really don't want to risk triggering a NI reunification vote, it is not in their interest.

@oldcremehelian3708 the eu is not simply a trade body. It was once when the uk joined the EEC/ common market, it has federal government ambitions, equivalent to empire building. The member states are no longer the masters of the EU, they are its servants, forced to do its bidding as a result of the supremacy of its laws. It is as much a force for evil as the old USSR it just needs time to mature in that direction.

@oldcremehelian3708 they were the EU, but not any more, it has become an entity unto itself. It has federal ambitions and is already beginning to act as a federal government. It is only necessary to look at the US to see where this is heading. The eu has made it clear that eu law take Supremacy over state law and even the constitution's of the member states. There is a trick used by such federal entities, it is the tyranny of the majority. Do not confuse this with democracy as it is in fact a dilution of democracy. It allows the views of member states,not affected by a ruling to impact on a small number of those who are. If played correctly, anything the eurocrats want can be forced into EU law. It is a example!e of the EU parasite subsuming the member states to produce a homogenous, bland mix.

@oldcremehelian3708 you are deluded if you think federalisation will add strength. You only need to look at other federal systems to see the problems this will bring. Examples such as the former USSR or the current problems in the US. The clue is in the misnomer of the first letter, U for united. Strength is in the diversity of the many independent sovereign states coming together, where their interests coincide, not in a forced amalgamation which just create internal tension and a bigger external target. If the EU gets its own military, it will not be long before it is at war with one of the other big blocks. The eu has imperial ambitions, maybe seeing its self as the seed for a world government. Unfortunately for the eu, this ambition is shared by the other big power blocks. In order to survive the eu must suppress the identity of the member states, which a recipe for internal tension, the only way to contain this pressure is by becoming increasingly autocratic. I suggest you read some Orwell to see the future of the EU. Leaving will not guarantee freedom freedom from eu rules. The eu is a cowardly bully,that likes to impose its rules on those it sees as weaker,like poor Switzerland or even the UK. The EU has taken unto itself the guardianship of what were once international regulations agreed between equal independent sovereign states. Now these regulations are set by the eu, may be the first grab at world government. You are the proverbial turkey, voting for Christmas, because of all the good things it will bring to eat.

@davidlynch9049 shame it does not work. The only reason 5hat there is not a hard border is because of the republican terrorists threat to the GFA. But the choice of a border on the Irish sea did not take into account the loyalist threat to the GFA. If the GFA was all that matters, the border would be between the island of Ireland and the rest of the EU. It is just as valid to split the EU as it is the UK.

@benjamin2149 I refer you to the Irish freedom party you tube videos, these make the case for the way the EU is bad for the republic of Ireland. But then you are controlled by Brussels, and are therefore not really a sovereign state, increasingly a puppet of the EU..
