@bca-biciclindcuaxel7527 I don't think Israel has admitted making nuclear weapons, the EU has prematurely switch from NATO to a reliance on its own forces. Unfortunately, the EU is dependent of French nuclear weapons as a deterrent, these are no where near as advanced or varied as those used by the US. Maybe in twenty years, if the EU survives that long, it might be able to match US technology, but I doubt if it will be willing to spend the money required. One of the reasons why Germany has done so well, post wwII, is because it has not been encumbered by paying for its own defence. Russia on the other hand has always tried to match the US technology. The former USSR almost became bankrupt trying. It would be a gross error to underestimate Russian weapons technology, if it is attempting to match that of the US, it is certainly a match for the EU. They have had seventy years of practice.
I suspect the reason the NATO deterrent was so effective for so long is because of the willingness of the us to fight its nuclear wars on European soil. (Purely out of self interest.). I think you maybe deluded by recent EU propaganda that it was the EU that kept the peace post war. The only peace the EU helped to keep was that of stopping member states fighting each other, by making them so weak and codependent. The EU certainly did not deter any existential threats, such as the Russians, that was down to NATO and American military technology.
